I took a manual bookkeeping course, an I’m thinking in opeing my own office, but doing this I would prefer to do it on a computer instead of manually. which software do you advise me?

Definitely Quickbooks. It’s the most common accounting software for small companies. And, if your clients use the online version, you will be able to access their files remotely.

since i cant seem to find any relevant job not even an office job….just wondering how to start my own freelance bookkeeping job OR are there some companies or agencies that contract jobs to freelancer in Melbourne Australia?

There are so many Aussies, and people around the world, that are freelance book keepers. They are referred to as virtual assistants. This site below will help you along the way. I’m a virtual assistant too and used to do book keeping for small businesses, but now stick to secretarial and transcription work only out of my home office. So anything referring to VA work is relevant for a freelance book keeper. Small businesses that don’t want to employ staff or don’t have the onsite resources for staff all use freelance book keepers. By the way I’m in Melbourne too, small world.

I am not familiar with DCA courses.

If you would like to learn bookkeeping, I would recommend the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. You can check their website out at www.aipb.com.

You can study their books – which are great – I have several of them. And then you can take the tests and become a Certified Bookkeeper.

The books are full of information that bookkeepers need to know. They have quiz questions in them also to help you learn. You can purchase one book at a time. You may find them cheaper at www.betterworld.com. where they sell used books that are in great shape.

I would be very carefull what you buy as far as home study courses…

Passing out flyers to potential cleints is a good idea. And make it creative so they remember your flyer and your name. You should pass a flyer with a picture of a washing machine with money in it and on the flyer write, "Do you need your money laundered?" That will get their attention and then tell them about your bookkeeping service. Good luck!
